becoming a christian

Scripture speaks of good news. This good news is called the gospel.  “For I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God for the salvation of all who believe, to the Jew first and also to the Gentile.” (Romans 1:16)

The gospel concerns Jesus Christ: "...that Christ died for our sins according to the Scripture, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scripture.” (I Corinthians 15:3-4)

To understand just how good this news is, you must understand the bad news: we are all separated from God and are unable to have a relationship with Him because of sin.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23) and “the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

The word death in the passage above means separation. The bad news is that the consequences of our sin have resulted in our separation from God. This separation is what we owe God (wages) because of our sin. Our only hope of living forever with God is that someone pays the debt of sin we owe Him. In spite of the bad news there is hope. “...and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins.” (1 John 2:2)

Jesus Christ died as the satisfactory payment for our sins! God, in His love for us, allowed His son Jesus Christ to pay the debt caused by our sin through his death on a cross. Now that the payment has been made, God offers eternal life to anyone who will trust Christ as Savior.

“For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

In other words, the moment you put your faith in Christ, who died for your sins and rose again, you have eternal life and will live forever with God! Eternal life is a gift, given by God, to anyone who will put their trust in Jesus Christ as Savior. This is called grace, because God is giving us something we don’t deserve-life forever with Him.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Someone may have told you that there are many ways to get to heaven, or any number of paths to God; but this is not true. Jesus Christ is the only way to God. His death made the way possible, and it is only through faith in Jesus Christ for eternal life that a person will live forever with God. The Bible quotes Jesus, speaking about Himself: "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father except by Me” (John 14:6)

According to the Bible, God offers to all eternal life, and that life is yours if you will trust Jesus Christ as your Savior. You can trust Christ as Savior right where you are. If you have trusted in Jesus Christ for eternal life, after reading this information, we would like to hear from you and answer any questions you might have.
